What are the Utrecht Holdings?

Universiteit Utrecht Holding BV & UMC Utrecht Holding BV

In order to protect and to make optimal use of the medical and scientific knowledge developed within academic institutions, a so-called ‘Technology Transfer Office' has recently been established in the majority of universities and medical centers. The interests of the Utrecht University (UU) and University Medical Centre Utrecht (UMC Utrecht) are served by UU Holding BV, established in 1997, and by UMC Utrecht Holding BV, established in 1996.

Vision
The UU and the UMC Utrecht endorse the importance of strengthening, broadening and intensifying co-operation with its relevant partners (companies, governmental organisations, organisations from the cultural sector, and social organisations). The added value which the institutions generate in terms of sharing and distribution of knowledge must become more tangible and visible.

The Universiteit Utrecht Holding BV and UMC Utrecht Holding BV administer control and exploit the entire patent portfolios of the UU and the UMC Utrecht respectively, and are responsible for the successful commercial exploitation of these portfolios. The organizations share a common supervisory board and work closely together, the resulting union being referred to as ‘Utrecht Holdings.
