Prothix BV (2011) (Universiteit Utrecht Holding BV and UMC Utrecht Holding BV)
Prothix is biotech company dedicated to the development of recombinant therapeutic proteins that address the medical need of patients with inflammatory and coagulation disorders. The company utilizes a so-called niche-buster strategy to capitalize its product portfolio.

Cristal Delivery BV (2011) (Universiteit Utrecht Holding BV)
Spin-off company of the Department of Pharmaceutics of Utrecht University, which is developing a proprietary product portfolio based on innovative combinations of its technology with new as well as marketed drugs. Cristal Delivery's nanoparticulate drug delivery platform increases efficacy, safety and convenience of pharmaceutical products through tuneable and controlled drug release inside the body.

Spin-off company of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Utrecht University, which focuses on the development of novel medicines for the treatment and prevention of inflammatory diseases like rheumatoid arthritis and inflammatory bowel disease.

Simibio BV (2010) (Universiteit Utrecht Holding BV and UMC Utrecht Holding BV)
Simibio BV was incorporated in 2010 by Dr. Mark de Boer and is an early stage company active in the development of therapeutic monoclonal antibodies. Utrecht Holdings is one of the participants in this company. Antibodies are an important part of the body's natural defense system and are normally produced by our immune system to help our bodies fight diseases such as cancer. Monoclonal antibodies are the dominant class of therapeutically important antibodies.

Universitaire Landbouwhuisdieren Praktijk BV (2009) (Universiteit Utrecht Holding BV)
Spin-off company as a result of the privatization of the Farm Animal Health Veterinary Practice of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine which merged with a neighboring private veterinary practice to form one of the largest ruminant practices in the Netherlands. Apart from providing high quality and innovative animal-health care this practice will train future veterinarians in the University Farm-Animal Practice.

Enceladus is a young and small-scale drug development company. Enceladus introduces Nanocort®, a liposomal pharmaceutical that contains an anti-inflammatory corticosteroid and selectively targets this drug to the actual sites of pathology in inflammatory disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and multiple sclerosis (MS), and cancer.

At the UMC Utrecht in 1993 Professor Tulleken invented a completely new way to make a neurovascular bypass without interrupting the blood flow in the recipient vessels. Elana sells the devices enabling this technique.

PanGenetics is a biopharmaceutical company that exploits its knowledge of the human immune system to develop novel proprietary antibody-based therapeutics for a variety of immune system-related diseases. The Company has a number of therapeutic monoclonal antibodies in pre-clinical and clinical development. Operations are based in Cambridge UK and in March 2006 PanGenetics successfully closed its series B venture capital financing round.

Crucell is the result of the merger between the Leiden based company IntroGene and the Utrecht spin-off U-BiSys (founded in 1996) in 2000. In the same year Crucell issued its IPO. Today Crucell N.V. is a leading European biotechnology company focusing on the development of vaccines and antibodies that prevent and treat infectious diseases, including Ebola, influenza, malaria, West Nile virus and rabies.

Semaia Pharmaceuticals BV (2000), UU/UMC Utrecht, acquired by Hybrigenics SA in 2003
Semaia specialized in the discovery and development of low molecular active substances that regulate defective intracellular signal transduction. These play a central role in the pathogenesis and growth of cancer. As a pioneer in the field of signal transduction, the company develops new drug candidates that demonstrate higher efficacy and, due to their target precision, produce fewer side effects.

GenMab BV/SA (2000), UU/ UMC Utrecht
GenMab is the largest biotechnology company in Utrecht that creates and develops human antibodies for the treatment of life-threatening and debilitating diseases. GenMab has numerous products in development to treat cancer, infectious disease, rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory conditions, and intends to continue assembling a broad portfolio of new therapeutic products. Genmab is headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark and has its (pre-clinical) R&D operations in Utrecht. The company is partly built on intellectual property of CSO professor Jan van de Winkel of the UMC Utrecht.
